The Story of My Recovery

I come from a broken home and both my parents remarried when I was very young.  My stepfather was cruel and abusive.  He beat me and degraded me and made me feel worthless.

My addiction started early as an 8-year-old, with marijuana—because my parents sold drugs such as cross tops and marijuana and methamphetamine.  I used to steal them and sell them in junior high school.  School wasn't very productive because I was so involved with trying to party and having a good time with all my friends.  It resulted in me getting kicked out of high school in the 12th grade.

I continued to use through relationships where drugs took a big toll on my life.  When I was twenty-three, I was arrested in Napa, California for burglary.  I served six months for the crime in Napa County Jail.  While I was there, I was introduced to my first A.A. meeting.

After getting out I was on probation for what was supposed to be three years.  I continued to pull burglaries and use drugs until I got caught again and again and again.

When I was twenty-seven, my first son was born and my girlfriend at the time left me, taking my son with her.  She moved away which caused me to feel that I had no reason for wanting to deal with things.  Instead I turned to drugs for comfort because I thought they could take the pain away.  In reality they only sent me to do more crimes and eventually back to jail.
