The Story of My Recovery |

I come from a broken
home and both my parents remarried when I was very young. My
stepfather was cruel and abusive. He beat me and degraded me
and made me feel worthless. My addiction started early as an 8-year-old, with marijuana—because
my parents sold drugs such as cross tops and marijuana and
methamphetamine. I used to steal them and sell them in junior
high school. School wasn't very productive because I was so
involved with trying to party and having a good time with all my
friends. It resulted in me getting kicked out of high school
in the 12th grade.I continued to use through relationships where drugs took a big toll on my life. When I was twenty-three, I was arrested in Napa, California for burglary. I served six months for the crime in Napa County Jail. While I was there, I was introduced to my first A.A. meeting. After getting out I was on probation for what was supposed to be three years. I continued to pull burglaries and use drugs until I got caught again and again and again. When I was twenty-seven, my first son was born and my girlfriend at the time left me, taking my son with her. She moved away which caused me to feel that I had no reason for wanting to deal with things. Instead I turned to drugs for comfort because I thought they could take the pain away.
